Projectrama (formally "Project Insanity") is a yearly activity to pick one long or difficult project to work on throughout the year. This blog focuses on the efforts of a group that are all working on the same project for 2015: de-cluttering by getting rid of one item a day. Anyone that wishes to join can message the admin to post on your item of day!

Rob's Pick for 1/31
A very neat knit blanket ... that we have 5-6 of...
I'm pretty sure someone is going to really like this when they come across it at Goodwill., as for the Hille household, we have plenty.

January 30th
I don't think I am ever going to learn all the yo-yo tricks I aspired to learn as a child, so this should probably go to someone more ambitious.
Rob's Pick for 1/30
This is a big step for me, tossing electronics!
Usually I'd keep something like a failing mouse around because "I may need it for an emergency" or "Maybe I'd need in for parts".
This time, I'm pitching it. It was a great mouse for 3-4 years, time to move on.

Another exercise video headed to DRM. Amazing how many of these I have that I probably only used once or twice!

January 29th
After being woken up three times by Dax last night, Zoe (our cat) playing with this bell on a string at 4:00 AM was the last straw. I found the source of my ire this morning, and it went into the trash. Don't feel too sorry for Zoe, she has plenty of noiseless toys that she enjoys.
January 29 - Linda's pick
The theme for the next few days will be exercise videos! Weight loss Cardio sculpt DVD. Donating to the Durham Rescue Mission.
January 28 - Linda's catchup pick
This book was given to me by my mom who was trying to help me take off some extra pounds. It hasn't work for me maybe it will work for someone who shops at the Durham Rescue Mission Thrift shop.
Rob's Pick for 1/29
Another (and the last!) blast from the past. The idea is that it is a little dog with a leash that a kid can pull around behind them. The leash is long since gone, and though cute, I am confident that Dax will have other such toys to play with.

January 28th
I've had this issue of "O" magazine since I went into the hospital to have Dax. Most recently, it has been sitting on a shelf in his nursery. I think I have gleaned all the wisdom from it that I can. Unfortunately, my thighs are still too big, I am still indecisive, and my fall look is pretty much the same as my spring and winter look. Also, I'm not sure if Oprah has a migraine or if she is doing a yoga pose.
I will be dropping this item in the recycle bin.

Mom saved this for any potential grandkids without realizing that changes in technology would mean this guy would cause tons of confusion.

January 27 - Linda's pick
today's pick is a collection of toothpaste, dental floss, and Chapstick to be donated to the Durham Rescue Mission. Steve and I make a visit to our dentist twice a year and he gives us these samples. Hopefully the residents at the DRM can use them.
January 27th
Somewhere along the way, I acquired this amoeba-like coaster set. I am guessing it was a stocking-stuffer at some point. In any case, since I rarely bother with coasters, and these have been sitting unused in my office for years, I have decided that it is time for them to go.
Rob's Pick for 1/27
One box of Lego Bionicle on its way to Colorado!
I'm not a complete Lego junkie, I've not really gotten into the Bioicle line of toys they offer. I acquired them as part of a Lego collection I was given about a year ago and preceeded to pick out these parts because I just don't like them. This is about 2 and half pound of assorted parts that I will probably never use.
Hopefully the nice lady in CO the scored them off me on eBay will have better use for them than holding down my closet shelves.

Rob's Pick for 1/26
Still working through "The Box of Childhood Past"
This is blanket to put down an let a baby free-range. Great idea! So much so that we have several more, including one from mom. I feel this one can go to a new home...

I have more botttles than I will ever use of various perfumes, body sprays, etc. Most days, I don't put anything like this on because I smell so sweet naturally. Plus, if my husband detects a scent like this, he gets the wrong idea, and then I have to dash his hopes. Therefore, I am saying farewell to this bottle of Moonlight Path body spray.

January 25th
Today, I am getting rid of green Capricorn bear. He is a cuddly reminder of my sign, but he has spent the last year in the attic, so I think I can live without him.
Rob's Pick for 1/25
Also from the Bow of Preserved Childhood my mom sent me, this is mattress cover for a crib.
Good try mom, however, crib sizes have changed over the last 36 years. Or maybe our crib for Dax just isn't the right size. Ether way, it doesn't fit so off to Goodwill.

January 24th
I know my husband will be sad to see me part with this sexy lingerie. No really...this is what I consider my sexy lingerie.
January 24 - Linda's pick
Today's pick is the first of three Christmas decorations that I have decided to part with. There is a snowman, a reindeer, and a Santa that bop around and light up. Today I am giving up Santa to my Durham Rescue Mission pile. Steve was very sad to see them go but I decided to donate them anyway!
Rob's Pick for 1/24
Yet another book dug from the wreckage of my youth. This one is a hardback in pretty good condition so adding it to the "donate" pile.
Looking back, I seem to have had a lot of books growing up. Sadly I didn't really enjoy reading until I was in my teens so most of these kids books were only used for construction of bases for my Transformers.

Rob's Pick for 1/23
Yet another selection from the pile of stuff from my Mom that has been collecting dust in my garage. No one has bothered to hung this in 30+ years, I doubt I'll start anytime soon.

January 23rd
Today, I am letting go of this little silver case with a K on it. It was a lovely gift, and I have held onto it for a while hoping to find a use for it. I believe its intended purpose is to hold credit cards or other similar-sized items. I thought about it, and I certainly don't need something shiny drawing my attention to my credit cards. Especially since Dave Ramsey tells me I should get rid of them.
I always have the most difficult time getting rid of things that were gifts. I need to remind myself that it doesn't mean I value the relationship I have with the gift-giver any less. It simply means that the object does not have a useful place in my life anymore.
In any case, if your name is Kyle, Kiki, Keri or Ken, and you are looking for something with a K on it, you may luck out at the Apex Goodwill in the near future.

January 22nd - Belated Post
This post is a bit late because I have been sick all week, so as soon as I put Dax to bed, I took a cold medicine/Melatonin cocktail and shuffled off to bed myself. Don't judge me, but I did feel a bit like a character out of Valley of the Dolls.
In any case, before I drifted off to sleep, I pulled these little gems out of my jewelry box. I am not sure in what universe I would ever wear them. I think that big earrings look amazing on certain people, particularly if you can pull off a short haircut. However, I came to the conclusion a long time ago that I should never, ever have short hair. It simply doesn't work with my face. Thus, these earrings should find a better home elsewhere.

Same source as yesterday though, sadly, these guys to too battle worn to donate. They've had a good run, and who know's they be recycled into more books!

January 21st
There's nothing too exciting to say about tonight's give-away. I'm fighting a cold, I'm tired, and the last thing I care about at the moment are low fat recipes. In fact, I would shamelessly eat a pan of brownies right now if given the chance.
Also, who really needs cookbooks these days now that we have the internet?

Rob's Pick for 1/21
Assorted Clifford the Big Red Dog books may not seem to be the thing that someone with a new baby may part with.
However, it's going to be years before Dax will get the point he will enjoy them, and until then they'll just take up space on his already crowded bookcase.
Besides, they use to belong to Dan (my younger brother).

January 20th
Today I went back into the attic and pulled this out of my tub o' books. I figure I better get rid of it before Dax discovers it and thinks its OK to take shortcuts in his literature classes. Actually, I am pretty sure that I did read this book many moons ago and that I was just using the Spark Notes as a refresher. At least that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
Rob's Pick for 1/20
This knot tying guide, I think, this came from a Scouting kit my ad put together when I was in the Cub Scouts. It's followed me for years, from place to place, its existence never questioned.
I eventually learned to tie all the knots on guide, without actually consulting the vinyl placard or touching the ropes, natch. I went on to teach at a Scout Camp, knot tying specifically, without digging through my mountain of stuff to find this guide to use during my demonstrations.
And if Dax ever follows in my footsteps and joins the Scouts and I find myself teaching him, I doubt I will think to track this thing down to aid him.
Nice try Dad. Gone.

January 19th
It is time for me to admit that these pants just don't fit right. They are too tight and too short. I don't believe that muffin tops will ever be in style, and I don't live in a flood zone, so it is time for them to go. Also, I don't have many occasions to wear navy blue pants.
Rob's Pick 1/19
I'm sure this was very sweet, though obviously the gifter nor my parents never bothered to actually put a picture in it...
I have no recollection of this item from my youth, but it arrived in my house a few months ago in a box of things that mom claimed were mine. As such, I claim the right to dispose of it as I see fit.
Bye-bye.
Speaking of said box, it is variable treasure trove of things to get rid of, expect more in the near future.

Rob's alive! (Make-up post!)
Shortly after posting my two week success story, I promptly came down with the "ick" that left me unmotivated to do anything other than watch "The A-Team" on Netflix.
So, here is what I would have posted on 16th-18th had I not been an official plague carrier...
This is knock-off Gerber Clutch (or maybe the real thing, I don't remember) I got on my big multi-tool kick a few years back. Great little tool, especially the pliers that butterfly out, however, I've nearly killed myself a few times with the blade.
There's some issue that the blade is too loose or the metal structure is woo weak, whichever, the blade will pivot right and left if you put any pressure on the knife. This, in-turn, causes the entire knife to flip one way or the other and you to nearly stab yourself.
I'll miss not having the pliers, but I enjoy my blood circulating inside my unpunctured skin a little tool much to carry this.
Fate: Trash
Yep, this is a ~18" piece of aluminium channel for a failed project. The only purpose it has served in the last 4 years is to remind me of said failed project.
That and to be waived about like sword while I clean the garage.
Fate: Recycled
Lastly, one complete set of door knobs and dead bolts, left-overs of re-placing all the knobs on the house so I only have to have 1 house key (as opposed to 3. Yes, 3.)
I've been telling my self that someone probably could use them, but since it's been 6 months and it's not moved from the workbench...

January 18th
From the deep, dark depths of one of my junk drawers, I found this old name tag from when I worked for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (circa 2001). I still think this is a fantastic organization, but I am fairly certain I will have no use for this name badge again, so today I trashed it.
January 18 - Linda's pick
So......we have a concrete monkey on our front sidewalk named Mr. Cinco as he was a gift to Steve for our fifth wedding anniversary. He gets a costume for each holiday. At Christmas this year he wore a top hat and red scarf like a snowman. To get the right sized red scarf, I ordered a children's set of hat, gloves, and the scarf. I am donating the hat and gloves to the DRM.

Nothing too exciting today. I'm just getting rid of some very old shades. I think I have an entire junk drawer filled with old sunglasses, so it is time to start purging.

Today's give-away is the arm band for my old phone. I actually found it quite useful, but I had to replace it with a bigger one to accommodate my new phone. Now, I just need to find the time to run again.
January 16 - Linda's pick
motivational magnets and magnet clips thrown in the trash! I love that I have a reason to get rid of this stuff!
