This is one of my first attempts at sewing: cutting off and hemming a pair of jeans. It went poorly. So poorly that I didn't try my hand at sewing for 2 years afterwards.
The issue wasn't the actual hemming, but rather my complete ignorance of where an acceptable place to cut should be. The result is they are far shorter than I feel comfortable wearing.
